"Hochrain" - Wachau - Gruner Veltliner - 2018

Gruner Veltliner •  Austria •  Wachau

This is a sexy wine. Like a sunset drive in an old convertible with a 1950's movie star. Generous, rounded, concentrated body brimming with juicy, ripe lemon, apricot, peaches and a saline, mineral and spicy finish. Gruner at its best.

About the Producer: The winery is located in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wachau. Built in the 13th century, the Mauritiushof served as a winegrower cooperative for the monks from Niederalteich around 600 years ago. The name has its origins in the neighbouring parish church, which is dedicated to St. Mauritius. The historic property came into the possession of the Gritsch family in 1799, and since 2009 it has been managed by Franz-Josef Gritsch, the seventh generation of the family. The vineyards cover 10 hectares of vines all throughout Wachau, planted with the classic Austrian white varietals of Gruner Veltliner, Muscat, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. The harvest is done exclusively by hand in several passes and ages in stainless steel vats and traditional large wood barrels.

The goal of the winery is to produce natural wines with clean fruit flavors and varietal character from healthy grapes.
