"Syrah d'Auguste" - Coteaux de Vienne - Syrah - 2018

Syrah • France • Rhone

Located on the south slopes of Vienne, on the opposite side of the Côte-Rôtie vineyards, this great Northern Rhone Syrah is recognizable as an Angus Young guitar solo. It rocks. Blackberry, raspberry, and flower aromas introduce you to a round palate full of blackcurrant and black cherry, showing the best attributes of one of France's noblest red grape varieties.

About the producer: The history of Christophe Semaska is linked to the revival in 1988 of a great Côte-Rôtie Domaine: Le Château de Montlys, a gem left untouched since the 1789 revolution. This 16th-century Domaine sits on a hillside facing the Rhône river, a great location for the thriving of Syrah and it still remains the largest privately owned estate, with 8 hectares of terraced vineyards, in Cote Rotie. Chateau de Montlys went dormant for 70 years during WWI due to the devastation of the vineyards brought on by phylloxera. A new winery was built in 2011 with the latest equipment for vinification, maturation, and cellaring.
